Hi, I'm Julia
I am a birth keeper, postpartum care provider, and women's circle leader. I hold space for women throughout their birth journeys so that they can give birth and step into motherhood confidently and without fear. I offer prenatal coaching, birth attendance, and postpartum support and integration.
I believe that no one knows her body or her baby better than the mother herself. With the utmost reverence for the sacred bond between mother and child, I support women physically and emotionally so that they can feel more ease, strength, and joy in every stage of motherhood.
I have 11+ years of nanny experience, specializing in babies and toddlers. Working with families and children in their homes is an intimate experience, requiring a certain grace and clear communication. I bring this wealth of experience into my birth and postpartum work. You can expect loving honesty, respect, and gentleness when working with me.
What is a Birth Keeper?
A birth keeper is someone who tends to a woman’s needs during birth, providing both physical and emotional support. She is a wise sister who walks with the woman through her pregnancy and birth, acting as an anchor as she moves through the experience.
I attend women who are planning sovereign births at home outside of the medical system. As such, I am not a medical provider of any kind. I have no association with Midwifery or Obstetrics. Rather, I focus on centering the mother as the sole authority in the birth space, witnessing her, and tending to her needs, allowing the birth process to unfold without intervention or interruption.
I am a graduate of Free Birth Society’s Radical Birth Keeper School, trained by Emilee Saldaya and Yolande Norris-Clarke. I am proud to be a part of the lineage of traditional birth attendants who are serving women in birth in the way it was done by our ancestors for thousands of years, before modern obstetrics came on the scene.
Please note: While I only serve women in birth who choose to birth at home, my postpartum care services are available to all women, regardless of where or how they have birthed.
My Story
As a woman living with type 1 diabetes, I have had intensive interaction with the industrial medical system for the last 20 years. Throughout that time, I have experienced repeated medical trauma, leading me to explore alternative methods of healing. Although I believe there is a time and a place for the medical system and I am grateful for the ways it has served me, I also have an intimate awareness of its shortcomings.
When I began considering my options for myself in birth, I knew that because of my traumatic medical experiences, going to the hospital was not an option for me. I was interested in birthing in a birth center with a midwife, however I soon learned that this is illegal in California because I have type 1 diabetes.
It was then that I discovered sovereign birth, and a global community of women who simply stay home and birth their babies in peace and power. I began learning about the benefits of undisturbed birth for both mother and baby. I enrolled in Free Birth Society’s Radical Birth Keeper School and trained to become a sovereign birth keeper. My fire for serving women outside the system had been lit.
Now, I am here to serve women who choose a sovereign path in birth. Whatever their reason, I respect every women's right to birth where and how they want to.
